DIY Toilet Bombs

Have you ever heard of these infamous toilet bombs? A mix of baking soda, citric acid and your favorite essential oils that helps get rid of unpleasant odors and keep toilet bowls a little fresher in between cleanings. Use any essential oil you like, I opted for lemon and orange oil for a very fresh scent. Thieves is another great oil with it’s rich and spicy scent. This one has all the cleaning power you need. Buh-bye germs and bad odors!

If there is one place in the house that I despise cleaning the most, it would have to be the bathrooms. So, I decided to give it a try and make some toilet bombs to see if they helped keep things a little fresher. Sure, you can go out and purchase already made bombs but where is the fun in that! Let’s get a little messy with this DIY toilet bomb recipe.

Check it out below!

INGREDIENTS

DIRECTIONS

  1. In a bowl combine baking soda and citric acid. Mixing well.
  2. Add in the essential oils and continue to stir the mixture until the oils are well blended.
  3. Slowly pour (or spray) the peroxide into the mixture until it is at the desired consistency. You want to be able to shape the mixture without it falling apart. Don’t be alarmed if you hear some fizzing or see a little bubbling.
  4. Scoop your toilet bombs out using a teaspoon and place on a cookie sheet. You can also pick up a silicone mold to give your bombs a specific shape. I opted to just shape them into small blocks.
  5. Let them sit at room temperature for at least 4-6 hours or until completely hardened.
  6. Once your toilet bombs are dry store them in an airtight container to help them last longer.
  7. When ready to use, go ahead and throw 1-2 bombs in the toilet and let them sit 15-20 minutes before flushing or drop them in right before bed and let them sit overnight.

Feel free to add in a little scrubbing action if you like. These bombs are the perfect way to freshen up your toilet in between deep cleans. The essential oils help leave your bathroom smelling fresh and clean.
