DIY Father’s Day Grill Platter

Are we feeling crafty… again? Here is another homemade gift for your kids to surprise that special man in their life, daddy.  A few years ago, I got my husband a new grill for Father’s Day. Let me tell you this gift was perfect for him. He is the master of all things grilled in this house. To be honest, this is probably one of the only ways I can get him to cook but hey I will take it. We love grilling out on summer nights. For Father’s Day this year I thought it would be a cute idea for the kids to decorate a “Daddy’s grill platter”. Once he is done cooking our dinner to perfection he can place his masterpiece on a platter made especially for him by the ones who admire him the most. Grab your paints and get ready for some messy fun!

Supplies

  • White platter, oven safe
  • Non-toxic Acrylic paint
  • Paintbrushes
  • Oven

Instructions

  1. Rinse the platter with soap and warm water. Dry well.
  2. Think of how you want to decorate the platter. We decided to make a grill with flames.
  3. Have your child dip their fingertips in black paint and place them on the bottom of the platter. Arrange the fingerprints to create coal on a grill.
  4. Dip your child’s entire hand into orange and red paint. Line up their handprint to be right above the black fingerprints (coal). This will create the illusion of fire over the grill.
  5. Allow the paint to fully dry.
  6. Bake the platter at 300 degrees for 35 minutes. This will set the paint.
  7. Remove from the oven and cool.
  8. Handwash your platter before using.

Tip: Make sure to use non-toxic paint if you plan on using this platter near food. Also to preserve the design hand washing is best.

What better way to show dad how special he is and just how much we appreciate all the yummy goodies that come from his grill skills. What crafty items have you made for Father’s Day?
