Pacific Coast Road Trip- L.A. to San Fransisco

Looking for a California adventure full of beach views and green scenery? Take a mini road trip up the famous Pacific Coast Highway aka PCH. This highway runs along the California coastline and has some of the most scenic driving and attractions, making for one of the greatest road trips. The great thing about planning a road trip along the PCH is that you can break it up however you like. Drive the entire coast or just halfway. Start from the North and work your way South or vice versa. There are so many attractions and stops along the way that you could spend days exploring. If you’re taking a quick trip, here are a few must-see stops along the way in between L.A. and San Francisco.

Los Angeles: Head to the Santa Monica Pier, enjoy the carnival, shops and check out the street performers, before stopping at one of the local beach bars for a frozen beverage. Hike through Griffith Park to the Hollywood sign or check out the Observatory. They both provide amazing views of the L.A. city down below. For all the car lovers, check out the Petersen Automotive Museum, one of the largest automotive museums.

Santa Barbara: With its Mediterranean vibes, take a break from driving and grab a bite to eat at one of the local restaurants on the beach overlooking the marina of boats.

Ragged Point: known by some as the “million-dollar view”, it is a sight to see.  Hike the cliff-side trail if you’re up for some adventure. These views show a glimpse of the state’s coastal mountains and sea-side cliffs.

Pismo Beach: A quaint beach town, perfect for an overnight stay, with plenty of beachfront hotels to choose from. Walk to the beach and watch the sunset on Pismo Pier or check out the Dunes and go for a ride on ATVs along the beach.

Big Sur: showing the more rugged side of California, this stretch of the highway is known for its winding, narrow roads overlooking the jagged rocks and sea below. (At this point you may have spotty cell service as you have entered a sparsely populated area). Have no fear, it will return shortly!

Monterey: check out lovers Point Parke overlooking Monterey Bay. A romantic spot to share a picnic, go kayaking or fishing.

San Francisco: Half Moon Bay, enjoy the white sands that cover the beaches while watching the sometimes-dangerous waves as they crash up against the beach. Stop by Sam’s Chowder House for some delicious seafood. The Lobster roll and clam chowder are delicious!

Make sure you take a road trip on the PCH for an exhilarating driving experience. These are just a few of the stops that you can add to your road trip list. What are some of your must-see spots?
