Toddler Curly Hair Wash Routine
Having curly hair can be a love hate relationship. Dealing with my hair is one thing, but having to tame a wild toddler’s mane too?! Let me tell you, I have my work cut out for me. I am sure many mommas out there can relate. I sometimes sit and find myself asking. . .
“What the heck do I do with all this hair?”
My daughter’s hair texture is slightly different from mine. The front of her hair has very fine ringlet curls and the back of her hair consists of more coarse curls. With the back being so coarse, it tangles and becomes frizzy very easily-ugh. I remember back when she was less than a year old, she only had a strip of small curls right down the middle of her head. We used to say she had a Frohawk! Now this girl has a head full of curls that needs to be managed.
Apparently, I didn’t know how easy I had it lol! Coming up with a wash and conditioning routine has saved us time, tangles and tears! Finding the right products has been very important. Sometimes you have to test out different products before you find the right ones that work best for your babe’s hair texture. I have found through the process of trial and error that using a detangler and leave in conditioner is a must for her hair. The detangler helps get rid of all the tangles, while softening her hair at the same time. In combination with the leave in conditioner, it helps decrease frizziness and bring out her natural curl pattern. I usually start by shampooing her hair with Cantu Care for Kids Nourishing Shampoo followed by Cantu Nourishing Conditioner. While the conditioner is still on her hair, I apply a generous amount of The Great Detangler by Taliah Waajid and proceed to comb out her hair with a wide tooth comb.
This detangler is amazing! It gets knots and tangles out with ease. Thus decreasing the chance of causing unwanted damage or breakage to her hair. Plus, no screaming while I comb through her hair. I actually use it for my hair as well because we have found it works so well. After using the detangler we rinse and towel dry her hair. Using a microfiber towel helps to cut down on the frizz in her hair. I then apply Curls Souflee and Taliah Curl Sealer before running a brush through her hair once more and then letting it air dry.
Her curls a more defined, smooth and soft. Bye Bye Frizz! I usually wash her hair once or twice a week to make sure her hair doesn’t dry out too quickly. In between wash days when her hair starts becoming frizzy, I usually keep a spray bottle on hand to dampen her hair. Then use Taliah Waajid Childrens Tangles out Today Leave in Conditioner and Detangler to reduce tangles and style her hair. With the help of our wash routine, Aubrey has learned to sit quietly and not act out when it is time to do her hair. Okay okay-most of the time haha. As she continues to grow I’m sure her hair will change but, for now we have got a handle on this little beauty’s curly curls.
