Fall Pumpkin Craft

Looking for a fun, fall craft to keep the kiddos occupied?  Create your very own autumnal inspired pumpkins to be showcased around the house. I love pumpkin décor during the fall and thought it would be a fun activity for the kids to help decorate their very own pumpkins! While I love a good fresh pumpkin, you just can’t go wrong with faux pumpkins that can be reused each year. So, sit the family down for some good old arts and crafts and put your artistic talents to work. I must warn you though, this can get a little messy. . . a little paint ain’t gonna hurt nobody!

SUPPLIES

  • Faux pumpkins, we used small pumpkins which ended up being the perfect size for the kids to handle. Feel free to go bigger though!
  • Acrylic paint, I picked up a set that has 24 different colors and even came with a set of brushes. This will definitely come in handy with this project and in the future! Acrylic paint typically dries fast and leaves a nice glossy finish. It washes off easily with warm water and soap making clean up a breeze.
  • Paintbrushes, we used large ones to paint the pumpkins and small tipped brushes for the detail work.

The kids each got to pick and choose how to decorate their own pumpkin and so did mommy. We all sat together around the table talking and giggling as we painted our pumpkins. It was a quick project that held both my 10-year-old’s and 2-year-old’s attention. I loved watching them both concentrate on their mini masterpiece. They were so proud of their completed pumpkins. Let me tell you, those kids had just as much fun painting their hands as they did their pumpkins!

After the pumpkins completely dry, put them out for display around your house. The great thing about using the smaller sized pumpkins is that you can use them anywhere (i.e. table centerpiece, front door décor). We kept our pumpkins on display in our garden window right near our dining table so they are always in view. Make your own Fall pumpkins this season!
